Introduction

Welcome to the Van Derlyn Gallery, a premier art destination located in the vibrant city of Amsterdam. Named after the esteemed 18th-century American painter John Vanderlyn (with a slightly altered spelling for a touch of Dutch flair), our gallery is dedicated to showcasing a diverse collection of masterpieces, with a particular emphasis on the works of Vincent van Gogh and his contemporaries. Founded by art historian and curator Dr. Anneliese de Vries, the gallery aims to provide an accessible and engaging experience for art enthusiasts of all levels, from seasoned collectors to curious newcomers.

We offer a range of educational programs, including guided tours led by expert art historians, workshops for aspiring artists, and lectures by renowned scholars. Our commitment to accessibility ensures that everyone can enjoy and appreciate the power of art. We are located at Prinsengracht 263-265, 1016 GV Amsterdam, easily accessible by tram, bus, and bicycle. Collection Highlights

Our permanent collection boasts several iconic works, including a powerful self-portrait of Vincent van Gogh, capturing the artist's intense gaze and unwavering spirit. We also proudly display Van Gogh's "Starry Night Over the Rhône," a breathtaking depiction of the night sky reflecting on the waters of the Rhône River in Arles. The swirling brushstrokes and vibrant colors characteristic of Van Gogh's style are immediately recognizable and deeply moving. Beyond Van Gogh, our collection features works by other prominent Dutch Masters, such as Rembrandt van Rijn, Johannes Vermeer, and Frans Hals, providing a comprehensive overview of the Golden Age of Dutch painting.

In addition to our permanent collection, we host rotating exhibitions that explore various themes and movements in art history. Past exhibitions have included "The Impressionists in Amsterdam," showcasing the influence of Impressionism on Dutch art, and "Modern Masters: From Mondrian to Appel," celebrating the pioneers of modern art in the Netherlands. Check our events calendar for upcoming exhibitions and special events.
